In my last post, I wrote about how to use facebook ads for personal trainers and bootcamp instructors.
Our current way of grabbing the leads involves using a simple Aweber signup form.
Now once you have the leads you need to get them into your gym and make them a paying client. So far the best approach for us has been to make our offer a free trial. If we’re running bootcamps, our trial would be 1-2 weeks of bootcamp for free. If its personal training you can do 1-2 free training sessions.
Either way you need to offer them something enticing that will be hard to not sign up for. After you have captured their info, your main goal is to get them on the phone!
The timing of this is crucial! If you have a new lead submit info, and you wait 2 days to call them they’ll probably have forgotten about the offer. At this point they won’t answer your phone call, and most likely never call you back. You just wasted a good lead…
If you ( or your asssitant) can call the people as soon as the leads come through, your chance of converting them will go through the roof. I bet you’d get more than 80% of them on the phone if you can call them within 15 minutes of the lead coming in… At this point you’ll need to sell them on the free offer. Don’t mention anything about paying monthly prices or anything like that. Your job is to get them to come through your gym door and take your free trial.
One thing Ive thought about experimenting with but havent yet is letting them bring a friend. Many people (especially women) would be very hesitant to come check out a bootcamp class by themselves. I think if they have a friend there, they would be much more likely to show up. Women seem to go to the gym with friends more often than men too. It’s more of a social outing, than a workout. I think it could work…
During their free trial offer you should have 2 objectives
- Show them the results they want
- Create a fun and friendly bond with them
When Frank Kern does a product launch, he likes to give away all of his best info first. This way people see the results they want and then they are WAY MORE inclined to buy the product. Well apply that same principle here. If someone’s goal is weight loss, and you help them lose 3 or 4 lbs in their 1 week trial. They will probably sign up for the bootcamp because they KNOW your stuff really works.
If you’ve given them results, and you’re also creating a fun atmosphere and they are having a good time, selling them on the bootcamp should not be too hard. Really they should be begging you to sign up.
Overall it just boils down to giving them what they want and making it fun. I hope this helps you convert more leads from Facebook (or any other marketing piece). If you have any questions, leave me a comment below!

Justin, how detailed/long do you make your landing page before putting the Aweber sign up form? Would having just a couple lines to entice them to quickly enter their info in the form be more effective than having a more exhaustive, comprehensive landing page?
I keep it near the top and then also put it at the bottom again.
The short copy w/ testimonials has seemed to work the best so far…

Justin,
Can you use Google Website Optimizer with aweber? If not, how do you test different landing pages?
Also: I’m doing this for lawnmowing and landscaping leads and made this landing page: http://engagementoptimization.com/?page_id=15
What do you think of it? Any suggestions on making it better?
Best- Brad
Yes you can use optimizer with aweber.
I actually have not used it yet tho because we were sending so many damn leads that I didnt have any time to test landing pages. I definitely will be using it soon tho…
As for your page, I would try to get an exclusive offer from the lawn companies. It will work much better than trying to have people request an estimate. If they can give out something free, even better.

Thanks man, really good idea. Hmmmmmm….. Right now I’ve had 20 people click onto the page with 0 leads, so something needs to happen….
Best, Brad
