How I’m increasing my productivity

by justin on September 17, 2007

Increasing your productivity is one of the fastest ways to increase your revenues. Most people just stay busy when they’re working, and they do work for works sake. I’ve made two big changes in my work lifestyle in the past two weeks, and I’ve had a more productive week.

  • Figure out what’s contributing to your bottom line, work on it and improve it. Cut out the fat

This is one of the main things I learned from The 4 Hour Work Week. Most people spend a majority of their time working on projects and dealing with people that are not making a significant contribution to their bottom line. This is the worst way to go about your business. If you have a client or a website that’s causing you stress and taking of a lot of your time…get rid of them! It’s such a simple idea, but most people don’t do it.Keep your ideas and projects visible. I just bought two big white boards to put next to my desk. I’m keeping track of all of my current projects, what needs to be done and launch dates for each of them.

  • Get off your ass and work out!

I’m probably in the worst shape of my life right now. I’m skinny as can be, but I have no endurance and no muscle mass at all. I haven’t done any weight training for about 6 months and I stopped playing tennis, golf and wakeboarding this summer. All of which I used to do about 4-5 days per week. I decided three weeks ago that it was time for a change. I started working out at a local Columbus Karate gym and I have already seen an improvement in the way I feel everyday. It’s very easy to forget how much working out can help give you more energy until you get back at it.

I absolutely hate working out and lifting weights at a regular gym, but so far this has been much more fun than normal. My trainer has me doing a good amount of non traditional exercises that are very hard, but they keep me motivated to keep going. Also if you can afford it, definitely get a trainer. It helps you to commit to the workout. A trainer will push you and make you workout even when you don’t want to. A friend probably won’t do that.

Everyone uses different ways to increase their productivity. Feel free to post some of your ideas that help you be more productive…
