When I first started getting into SEO, I really didn’t understand links very well. Here’s a few of the things I’ve learned over the past year, which have helped me achieve solid rankings with my websites.
Link juice can be passed to multiple pages
- I always thought that articles/linkbait pages were useless because you were getting links to those specific pages, and not to pages that are actually targeted to making you money. However, I’ve since realized that links to any page will help you in the long run…and also the most important point is you can pass some of the linkjuice to other pages. If you write a great article and get 500 links to it, you can pass on some of that great linkjuice to other page son your site by adding links to those pages on your article page. If you put good anchor text on those links, then you’ll be in even better shape.
Accumulate a bunch of links when you start a new site
- I’ve found this has really helped my MMABettingBlog site. When it started out, I had a very small amount of links. However, I then submitted it to about 500 or so directories and also sent out a few articles through EzineArticles and ISnare. This helped me get a good base of links. The links might not be the best quality(besides DMOZ), but they are links to build upon. These links gave me some decent rankings in the SERPS for my pages, which has in turn gotten my site noticed, and I’m now getting more natural links than before.
Be specific about who you link out to
- I know this is basic linking 101, but it needs to be reinforced. Don’t link out to sites that are engaging in bad tactics. Just because someone wants to do a link exchange with you don’t immediately oblige to it until you actually check out their site. If someone has a crappy site with bad content, then you should definitely think twice about exchanging links with them. Linking to bad sites can hurt your site more than you think.
