I finally got power back in my house yesterday, so  after 3 days of living in a hotel, I’m back home.

Weirdly, the 3 days I spent in a hotel opened my eyes to some business lessons that I want to share with you today…

Let’s kick it off with…

1.  You need to prioritize uninterrupted time in your work environment

I was staying with a friend in a hotel, so yesterday morning I woke up early and went down to the lobby to get some work done.

Which was not a great idea in hindsight.

Cause it was hard to focus in the lobby…

Every 30 seconds someone was shouting at someone else and my attention would be taken away.

Also it was freezing cold down there.

I was bundled up in a beanie, sweatshirt and jacket while I was workingg.

All this made it hard to get in any kind of “deep work”.

And it made me realize just how important a work environment is that allows you to be uninterrupted.

If you want to get a lot done…

You need to bury yourself away from everyone and everything.

You can’t have kids running in the room at any moment they want.

You can’t have youor dog pawing at your leg wanting to play for hours on end.

You need uninterrupted focus.

Which is not easy to do.

But it is do-able.

Maybe that means getting yourself an office…

Or locking yourself in a room in your house and telling everyone “don’t interrupt me for 3 hours unless the house is burning down”.

Really whatever it takes to get uninterrupted time you need to do.

Alright let’s look at the second lesson I learned this week…

2.  Routine is everything

Because of the huge blackout in Texas, my routine has been all out-of-whack.

I’ve been going to bed later than normal…

I’ve been getting up later than normal…

I don’t have my food prepped like I usually do…

I can’t get my energy out at the gym…

I don’t have a comfy desk to work from…

I could go on and on with this.

The stuff I’m used to, I did not have this week.

And I realized very quickly how much I thrive on routine.

That’s when I’m at my best.

That’s when I’m most productive.

Point being, humans thrive on routine.

I do…

You do…

So you need a routine in your life if you want to be at your best each day.

And that routine should be specific to you.

If you like getting up at 5 AM and getting to work right away, then do that.

If you like staying up late, and working til 2 AM, then do that.

Whatever works for you.

But you need a routine.

Something you do consistently every day of the week.

That’s the key.

Hope this was helpful for you

Enjoy your Friday.
