Every Sunday I usually write an email about 3 random things on my mind.

I didn’t get around to writing that yesterday.

So I’m doing it today.

If you’re new to my list, the 3 things I talk about are sometimes about business…

Sometimes they’re about life…

And other times they are truly random…

So with that said, let’s dive in…

1.  Investing in friendships has been one of my smartest investments of 2021

When I bought my house a few years ago, one of my main goals was to host a lot of gatherings at my house (dinners, pool parties etc…)

This year I finally got around to doing that.

I had a new years party…

I had a night swim party…

I’ve had numerous dinners and cocktail mixers for entrepreneurs.

I’m even having 10-15 friends over for yoga and brunch once a month.

So far this has been a great investment for me.

Why?

Well for one, I like hosting stuff…

And I like introducing my friends to new people…

But even more than that…

It’s been a great way for me to meet people that I actually want to meet.

Cause these people are “pre-filtered”.

If they’re friends with a friend of mine, then chances are I’ll prolly like them.

So that just makes it easier to meet the kind of people that I actually want to be around.

Anyways…

I never really thought about “investing” in friendships before.

But it’s had a big ROI so far.

And I’m meeting a bunch of people that I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise.

Alright let’s jump to the second thought on my mind…

2.  People get very upset when you tell them that buying a house isn’t a great investment

Home ownership in America is like religion.

If you question it, people get very agitated about it.

And this is coming from someone who owns a house.

What’s most interesting to me is the phantom costs that  go along with a house that most people don’t think about…

– Property taxes

– Realtor fees

– Repairs (this is huge unless you know how to fix everything yourself)

– Maintence on the house (roof, hvac etc…)

– Interest on your mortgage

– Lawn care, weeding, leaves etc…

– Home owners insurance

– You also tend to spend a LOT more on furniture/decor when you own the house (this was eye opening to me)

I could go on and on with this…

There’s probably more expenses I’m missing.

But you get the point.

From a financial perspective, most people would be better off renting and simply investing their house downpayment in something like an index fund.

But most people don’t want to hear that.

Cause they don’t look at home ownership logically.

It’s an emotional issue.

This is why I’m of the belief that if you want to buy a house, it should probably be for non-financial reasons.

Like being in a good school district for your kids…

Like Ramit says, “run the numbers”.

Most times you’ll realize that buying a house is not the  “great investment” we’ve been told it is.

Alright, let’s do one more of these…

3.   Copy Accelerator LIVE kicks off tomorrow in Scottsdale

I flew into Scottsdale last night for our event.

We have a few hundred copywriters, offer owners and media buyers joining us this week (and more joining us virtually).

I’ve always loved live events.

I get a lot of energy from them.

I meet people I wouldn’t normally meet.

But most importantly I get to see people in real-life that I’ve helped.

These are people that read my emails…

Watch my Youtube videos…

Or who are in the Copy Accelerator mastermind.

And seeing their progress is what really inspires me.

This is something I didnt have when I had my supplement business.

I had no interaction with the people that bought our stuff.

I never met them in real life.

But with Copy Accelerator,  it’s very different.

I get to know people on a more personal level.

So it means a lot more when I see someone go from 6-figures to 7-figures…

Or when a copywriter goes from working a 9-5 job to having thir first $10k month.

That’s inspiring for me.

And it’s why I love catching up with people at live events.

Anyways…

If you’re coming to be at the event this week, I’ll see ya there.

If not, you can get a sneak-peek at some of the stuff going on at the event on my instagram (follow me @itsJGoff).

That’s all I got for today.

Enjoy your Monday,
