There’s a lot you can learn about marketing from someone who’s savvy at self promotion.

For example…

Last night, I watched the Mayweather/Logan Paul fight with a couple friends.

Both of these guys are smart when it comes to self promotion.

They know how to create drama…

And get attention…

That part is obvious.

But there’s some even bigger marketing lessons I took away from the fight that I want to share with you this morning.

Let’s dive in…

1.  Entertainment always trumps information

This one took me a long time to learn.

When I got into the info-marketing niche, our fitness emails were ALL information.

So we wrote about topics like fat loss…

And specific foods to eat…

The funny thing is we were providing good information.

But nobody wants information if it’s boring.

There’s a reason more people watch the Bachelor than read books.

It’s more entertaining.

People love to be entertained whether that’s at an event, in an email, on a podcast…whatever it is.

Entertainment always trumps information.

2.  Owners will always make more money than employees

In the UFC, the fighters don’t make a whole lot of money.

Most of that money goes to the UFC.

But in boxing, the big names make HUGE money.

Why?

Because they have more ownership.

Someone like Floyd Mayweather makes $100 million per fight, because his company is the one that puts the fights on…

So he gets a big chunk of the pay-per-view buys…

Plus a guaranteed salary…

When you’re just an employee…

And they tell you “you’re fighting this guy, on this date” you don’t have a lot of control.

But when you have ownership…

And you can deliver eyeballs, then you have a lot more power.

Which brings me to my 3rd point…

3.  Attention = money

Logan Paul is a decent boxer…

But there’s thousands of boxers who are better than him.

These are guys that have trained their whole lives to fight.

So why aren’t they getting a big payday like Logan?

Simple, they don’t have the attention he does.

Attention is what moves the needle.

The good thing is you don’t need a lot of attention to make things happen.

My email list is 3500 people…

Which is small…

But this list is responsible for making me around $1-$2 million a year.

So you don’t need a ton of attention.

But you do need attention.

And that can come from many sources…

Youtube, email, Facebook…whatever.

Just make sure you build an audience who wants to hear from you.

Anyways…

Hope you get a nugget or two from this email.

I gotta take off.

Enjoy your Monday,

– Justin
