Every Sunday morning I like to write about 3 things that are on my mind.

Sometimes these things are about business…

Sometimes they’re about life…

And other times they’re just truly random.

So with that said…

Let’s jump in to the first thing on my mind this morning.

1.  If you’re getting TOO emotionally involved in something, it’s time to eliminate it

I had a realization earlier this week that I get wayyy too emotionally involved with sports…

Specifically Ohio State football.

And here’s why I say that…

When I’m on Twitter, most of the people I follow are writers who talk about college football.

Every Saturday, I watch the OSU game…

I even pay attention to all the drama when it comes to recruiting and what recruits they get (and don’t get).

Well it dawned on me this week, that this is not exactly healthy.

My involvement with the team has gone beyond simply being a fan.

I’m now a little too involved.

Which is interesting, because I don’t have this kind of relationship with any of the other sports teams I follow (like the Cavs or the Browns).

But with OSU, I do.

So what am I doing?

I’m pulling back on it.

I realized Twitter is the big trigger for this.

So I decided to delete Twitter from my phone.

That way I wouldn’t be tuned into the day-by-day updates that go on with the team.

And guess what?

I immediately started feeling better.

Like a lot better.

I don’t feel as up-and-down…

And my emotions are more stable.

I feel happier.

So it’s been a welcomed change.

Funny enough, this “too invested” feeling happens with a lot of things.

I’ve seen it with friends in crypto…

I’ve seen it with friends of mine who are talking to girls on Tinder (they end up getting too emotionally involved in something that hasn’t turned into anything yet).

So it starts out as fun…

But slowly turns into something you’re too attached to.

And you’re thinking about it 24/7.

You don’t want that.

So my advice?

Find the things you’re too emotionally involved with… and scale back (or eliminate it completely).

You’ll be glad you did.

Alright let’s hop to the next thing on my mind this morning…

2.  According to Vanguard’s own data, Americans are starting to feel the “cash crunch” of inflation

There was an interesting article I read this week that “hardship withdrawals” from 401k accounts are at an all time high.

So people that need money are basically raiding their own retirement account to do it.

Which is not good.

According to the article, the current number of hardship withdrawals at Vanguard is .5% of the total accounts.

Which isn’t a huge number.

But that number in 2021 was .3%.

And in 2020 it was .2%

So it’s more than doubled since 2020!

So…not good.

But it’s also not surprising.

The cost of everything is going up…

And there’s a general worry in the air that it’s not gonna get better anytime soon.

I don’t know where this goes from here…

But the uptick in hardship withdrawals, cars being repossessed and people being behind on rent payments ain’t good.

It shows there’s still more to come.

Alright, let’s hop to the 3rd thing on my mind this morning.

3.  I averaged 10,000 steps everyday this week, and I feel better already

I mentioned last week that I wanted to get back to hitting 10,000 steps a day.

Why?

Well a few reasons…

One, I simply feel better when I walk more.  And If I get out early in the morning, I’m not only getting a walk in, but I’m also getting some sun (two things I try to do).

And two, I hate doing cardio.  I’m not a fan of HIIT, or riding a bike, so walking for me is the next best option.

So I committed to hitting 10,000 steps everyday.

And I’m glad to say I nailed that goal each of the past 7 days.

What’s interesting is that if you have a sedentary job like I do, this takes some real planning.

Cause it’s about 90 minutes of walking each day to hit 10,000 steps.

If I don’t push myself to walk, I’m only hitting like 2000 steps for a day.

So what I’ve been doing to hit 10k is walking for 45 minutes in the morning…

And then another 20 minutes after lunch…

And then I usually end my day with a 25-30 minute walk.

So it’s a lot of walking.

But I can already notice a difference.

My body looks more in shape.

And I feel better.

So I’m gonna try to keep this up for the forseeable future.

I have a feeling it will pay big dividends…

And I can also use the walking time to just think.

So lot’s of benefits…

And I’ll keep ya updated on how it progresses and what changes I see from it.

Alrighty…

I need to wrap this baby up.

Hope you got a nugget or two from this.

As a reminder, I’m gonna be in Mexico for the next 10 days for a copywriting retreat I’m hosting.

All my focus is gonna be on the retreat, so I won’t be writing my daily emails during this time.

However…

If you want to see some behind-the-scenes stuff from the retreat, feel free to follow me on Instagram (@ItsJGoff).

I’ll be posting pics and vids over there.

Enjoy your Sunday,
