There’s a lot of reasons you should want to have your own email list.
But today I’m not gonna tell you about those…
Instead, I’m gonna reverse it and show you a few reasons why you would NOT want to have your own list.
Starting with…
1. You only care about present money…so you don’t care about having an asset that pays you year after year
Many marketers are short sighted and only care about “money now”.
They don’t understand that an email list gives you the best of both worlds (AKA money now, and future money).
If you don’t care about future money, then an email list is probably not that appealing to you.
2. You don’t want to have control over your income and your schedule
Some people like being followers…
And they thrive on taking orders from others
If this is you, then you might be happier working for someone else as a freelancer or an employee than you would be running your own email list.
3. You like what you’re currently doing, and you have no interest in working less, making more, or having actual ownership of something
My dad worked for 38 years in a hot-as-balls factory making rubber conveyor belts for the coal mining industry.
And for some reason, he liked doing this.
He had no desire to start a business or to be his own boss.
So if you’re content doing what you do, and you have no interest in doing your own thing, then having a list probably isn’t the right thing for you.
4. You like working 8-10 hours a day and have no interest in scaling that back to 1-2 hours a day
Some people are work-a-holics, and the idea of working less scares the shit out of them.
I know. I was a card-carrying member of the work-a-holic club for many years.
But now I simply focus on my email list, and I work 1-2 hours a day.
Which is a good fit for me.
It allows me to spend more time traveling, walking the trails in Austin and grabbing dinners with friends.
Having a list works for me, but if you love working a lot, then the idea of working less probably won’t appeal to you.
Ok, last one…
5. You think email is for “boomers” and that the real money is made on Tik Tok and Instagram
People who are not “in the know” are shocked when I tell them that 90% of the profit in this industry is made from email.
Why?
Cause they think email is archaic.
It doesn’t have the sex appeal of Tik Tok or Instagram.
Which is very true.
Your emails aren’t going to make you famous…
Or get you invited to lavish influencer parties…
But here’s the thing…
Email is where almost ALL the money is made.
Last year I pulled in $1.6 million, and that all stemmed from my email list.
My friend Mike Geary pulls in over $10 million a year from his email list.
You won’t find either of us dancing on Tik Tok…
Or cold dm’ing people on Instagram.
Our bread and butter is email.
Why?
Cause people are conditioned to buy through email.
So that’s where we put our focus.
So there ya go…
A few reasons why you would NOT want to have your own email list.
I’ll say that having an email list is definitely not for everybody.
But for the people that it is for, it’s probably the best money-making asset out there.
Why?
Cause you’re in control of it.
And you can make money from it today…
Next month…
And next year…
All from the same subscribers.
And you can do it working just a few hours a day.
It’s pretty damn simple.
