One of my secrets for being successful in business (and in life) is simply being realistic about what I’m signing up for.

Case in point…

I ran into a friend of mine at a coffee shop in Austin yesterday, and she started telling me about some issues she was having in her relationship.

I happen to know her boyfriend…

And he’s a super successful entrepreneur.

I’m guessing his biz does north of $50 million a year.

So he’s crushing it…

And while she loves how ambitious he is…

And everything that comes along with that…

She also feels like he doesn’t have enough time for her.

His mind is always on his work…

And he’s always at the office…

So she feels like she’s playing second fiddle.

Now part of me empathized with her on this.

Cause I’ve had this issue myself in previous relationships where I worked all the time…

But another part of me wanted to tell her that she wasn’t being realistic about what she signed up for.

I mean, her boyfriend is a very driven entrepreneur.

And his company has grown from nothing to $50 million in less than three years.

Which takes a lot of his time…

And his focus…

But this is who he is.

So I told her, if you’re intent on dating someone like him, then you need to be more realistic about what his priorities are gonna be.

He’s probably never gonna be the kind of guy who puts her first…

Or who’s gonna be home for dinner at 5…

And if she’s expecting him to do that…

She’s gonna be disappointed.

That’s the truth.

So her options are to either be a little more realistic about what he can and can’t give her…

Or she can find someone else that’s able to give her more attention.

This is what I mean when I say you need to be realistic about things.

Most people are not realistic.

Cause reality is usually not what we want.

But if you want to be successful…

Whether that’s in your business, your relationships or your personal life…

Being more realistic about your situation will help.

Cause it gives you accurate thinking.

And that’s what you want.

Make sense?

I hope so.

Cause that’s all I got for ya this morning.

Enjoy your Wednesday,
