Yesterday was day two of my 4-day intensive with my coach, Brent.

And one of my big takeaways from yesterday was that I have a lot of beliefs about the way things SHOULD be.

For example…

Let’s say someone joins our mastermind who is working a 9-5 job.

And within a year, Stefan and I help them get out of that job, and make a good living as a copywriter.

So they’re done with the boring 9-5 that they had…

They have the freedom to live and work wherever…

They have control over their income.

If we help someone do this, it’s a massive win.

And it completely changes their life.

So in my mind, after getting results like this, this person should 100% renew their membership in the mastermind for another year.

They would be stupid not to.

But that doesn’t always happen.

We’ve helped multiple people go from a 9-5 job to making 6 figures and they don’t renew.

Hell, we’ve even helped some people 4-5x their income and they end up not renewing.

Which is mind boggling when it happens.

You’d think they would want to stay…

And learn more from you to get to the next level.

But humans can be funny.

And we don’t always act in rational ways.

And as Brent pointed out to me, this is very much a “if x happens, then y should happen” kind of belief that I have

It’s a very rigid way of thinking.

There’s not a lot of wiggle room.

You’re basically saying every single time x happens, then y should happen.

Which sounds ok in theory.

But reality is that there’s a whole host of reasons someone might not renew the mastermind even if they got amazing results.

Some people don’t renew simply because they think “you helped me achieve my goal, now I don’t need you anymore”.

Or maybe they think another mastermind is a better fit for them now…

Or maybe we helped them make a lot of money but someone else in the group was mean to them so they don’t want to be in the group anymore.

These are all real reasons why people leave masterminds.

So the reality is that it’s not as simple as “if we get you x, result then y should happen”.

There’s a lot more at play here.

And digging into this yesterday with Brent was very eye-opening.

Cause these “rigid rules” are everywhere…

“If I text someone, they should always text me back”

“If I help my family with money, they should be appreciative of it”

“If I do well for this client, he should hire me again”

I could go on and on with this…

But you get the idea.

Having these “rigid rules” as beliefs doesn’t help you…

It hurts you.

Cause there’s no wiggle room in them.

And real life doesn’t work like that.

So…

If you notice yourself having a lot of these rigid beliefs…

It might be worth digging into them and seeing why you think that way.

You’ll be better in the long run if your thoughts aren’t so “set in stone”.

Make sense?

I hope so.

Cause that’s all I got for ya this morning.

I’m heading back to Brent’s house now for day three.

So I’ll be back tomorrow with some more insights.

Enjoy your Saturday,

– Justin
