Many entrepreneurs struggle to take their “foot off the gas” when they clearly need to.

I’m no different.

And this week has tested me on that front.

Why?

Well last Sunday as I was flying back from Miami, I felt quite sick.

I was battling a fever and the chills.

My body was aching.

My eyes, nose and throat were all clogged up.

I felt like death the whole plane ride home.

And things just got worse when I got back to Austin.

I was sick as a dog.

Which is really bad timing for me considering our Copy Accelerator mastermind is coming up in about 10 days.

I have a bunch of stuff I need to finish before the event.

We’re in the “final push” to wrap everything up.

Yet, I feel like I’m on death’s door.

Funny thing is, the old me from a few years ago would have just powered through this.

And suffered the consequences.

I would have seen taking time off as “weak”.

Like that’s something only people who aren’t dedicated would do.

Luckily for me, I’m not that stubborn anymore.

So I made it a point to simply rest this week.

And actually take it easy.

To be fair, I put in maybe an hour of work each day (usually writing this email)…

But for the most part, I just rested.

I laid on the couch and binge watched Entourage, Mad Men and all my favorite shows.

I napped.

I refrained from doing anything physically taxing.

You know, all the stuff you’re supposed to do when you’re sick.

And little by little I’ve started to feel better, so it’s working.

I’m guessing I’ll be back to normal mid next week.

But the big thing I’m proud of is that I was able to actually take my foot off the gas.

It’s something I’ve always struggled with.

My m.o. always been “go go go”.

Which can make you incredibly successful…

But it can also leave you burnt out.

And unhappy.

So being able to take time off like I did this week was a big win for me.

It showed me I can take my foot off the gas when I need to.

And step away during a hectic time.

That’s progress for me.

It’s something I wouldn’t have been able to do 2 or 3 years ago.

Maybe you can relate to this…

Maybe not…

But either way, being able to take your foot off the gas is crucial to long-term success.

Keep that in mind.

That’s all I got for today.

Enjoy your Saturday,

– Justin
