Back in July, I discovered that the guy building my pool scammed me out of $82,000.

Which is frankly, embarrassing to talk about.

Cause I feel like an idiot.

Basically I paid this guy $82,000 to build about 30% of my pool.

And sometime in July he just disappeared.

No phone calls…

No texts…

He hasn’t done an ounce of work since.

He just vanished.

And after doing a little research…

I discovered that he’s been running this scam for years.

He basically sets up a new business every year under a different name…

And then scams another 2-3 people each year by building 30% of their pool and getting 80% of the money.

The guy’s a real piece of work.

And as much as it pisses me off to talk about this schmuck…

There is a good marketing lesson here.

And I’m never one to let a good marketing lesson go to waste.

Here’s the deal…

Because I had such a bad experience with this guy,  I am now HYPER aware when working with contractors.

The new guy I hired to finish my pool probably thinks I’m nuts.

Cause everytime he asks me for a check,  I have 50 different questions for him.

I want to know what the check is for…

What day the work will be completed…

What the price is compared to what other contractors are charging…

I had a bad experience, so I’m on high alert at all times.

Well, guess what?

This is exactly what’s going through the minds of the people that buy your stuff as well.

Cause they’ve been duped by shitty products…

Lured into hidden rebills…

And enraged when they try to call customer service and there’s no one to talk to.

They are on high alert.

And when they look at your stuff…

All the ghosts from their “purchasing past” are haunting their head.

So it’s your job to address those ghosts…

Cause if you don’t…

You’re not gonna make the sale.

It’s easier for them to just do nothing.

And that’s what they’ll do.

Make sense?

Hope so.

Cause that’s all I got for ya today.

Me and Georgie boy are off to the park for a little run.

Enjoy your Friday.
