At our last Copy Accelerator event, copywriter Ning Li raised his hand and said he was struggling to get the upsells to convert on one of their keto cookbooks. 

The book converted great on the front-end…

But the upsells just weren’t cutting it,  so they couldn’t scale it above ~30ish sales a day.

Well over the course of the event, we had multiple talks about upsells planned.

So I knew he’d get the help he needed…

I gave a talk on upsells (and shared examples of what is working now).

And Jay Deiboldt gave his infamous upsell talk as well (probably the best talk Ive ever seen at an event).

Ning told me he took over 6 pages of notes just on the upsell talks.

But here’s what’s interesting…

Out of all the stuff Ning learned that week at the event, it only took ONE thing to completely change their offer.

Just one.

Cause when Ning got home after the event he started brainstorming ideas on how he could make their first upsell better based on what Jay and I shared.

And within a month, he had a brand new upsell that was ready to test.

The new upsell he created was a LOT different from their previous one.

The copy at the beginning of the video was different…

And the actual offer was entirely different.

So it was a big change…

But guess what happened when they tested it?

It crushed!

The new upsell wound-up adding nearly $5 to the AOV on their F+S keto slowcooker book.

So the AOV went from like $16 to $21.

Which is a HUGE boost.

That’s like adding $50 in AOV to a $150 AOV.

It’s a total game changer.

So instead of having a mediocre offer making 30 sales a day, that puppy is scaling to 1000+ sales a day now.

And since Ning was responsible for that, his boss gave him a big raise and a fat royalty check to boot.

So a win-win for both of them.

Now I wanted to point this out, because this really shows the power of ONE good idea.

I usually leave events with multiple pages of notes like Ning did…

But if I get ONE good idea that I can implement, I’m happy as a pig in shit.

Cause I know the ROI of that one idea is huge.
