A few years ago at a Copy Accelerator event, one of the copywriters in attendance told me about a scheme he devised to get other copywriters to give him their clients.
Here’s the story…
We’ll call this copywriter “Chris”.
At the time, Chris had been writing copy for less than year…
So he was still new…
And learning…
But one of the things Chris realized was that a lot of the intermediate and advanced copywriters he met were turning down clients all the time.
Usually because the pay was to low for them…
Or because they didn’t have enough time to take on another client…
So while these clients might not be a good fit for a top-tier copywriter…
Chris would have gladly taken them.
Which is why he decided to work out deals with a couple different copywriters.
He basically told them “if you have clients coming your way that aren’t a good fit for you, send them to me, and I’ll give you 15% of whatever they pay me”.
This is such a smart move…
And it worked brilliantly for him…
He told me he picked up three new clients in the first two months of using this strategy.
So not only did he get a couple clients…
But the copywriters who referred those clients to him were happy as well, since they got a piece of the action.
So it was a win-win.
Personally I’m a huge fan of these unique client-getting strategies…
While every other copywriter is sending cold emails…
Or DM’s…
You can do something like this and operate in your own lane (with very little competition).
That’s why I like ’em.
