A long time ago I heard a saying that “if you have a winning racehorse, the only thing that horse should worry about is the race”
Which means the horse isn’t doing other stuff throughout the day…
It’s not hauling stuff across a farm…
It’s not out giving rides to kids all day…
His job is basically to train, eat and sleep.
That’s it.
Strangely this is a habit I use in my daily life as well.
Why?
Because like the horse, I’m the money maker in my business.
So the more I can stay focused on my business, then the better I do.
Let me give ya an example…
Right now, my back deck needs repainted due to some wood that chipped off it recently.
I could easily do this myself.
However I’m not going to be painting it.
In fact, I’m not even going to be talking to the guy who’s painting it.
Why?
Cause it’s a waste of my time.
Considering my time is worth at least a thousand dollars an hour (probably more) there’s no reason I should be doing this task.
So my assistant will handle everything.
She’ll set up the meeting with the painter…
She’ll be at the house to show him what needs painted.
She’ll have the paint samples ready for him.
And she’s gonna pay him when he’s done.
So I’m not gonna do anything.
Just like the racehorse is able to stay focused on the race, I want to stay focused on my business.
And doing things like running to the Post Office or going grocery shopping is a waste of time for me.
So I gladly pay my assistant to do it.
Point being…
If you’re a high achiever…
And you have more money than time…
You should do everything in your power to make sure that your time is not interrupted.
You shouldn’t be standing in line at Fed Ex…
Or picking up dry cleaning…
Or mowing your lawn…
None of that stuff is productive.
Your time is better spent on things in your business that actually move the needle.
You’re the racehorse in your business…
So make sure everything is setup around you so that you can win the race.
