One of my overarching beliefs with email marketing is that if you’re NOT selling to your list, then they’re still buying stuff…just not from you.
I’ll give ya an example…
Back in 2010, I had a fitness list with my business partner Vic (he was the trainer who was the face of our product).
At the time, Vic had a lot of mental hang-ups about selling things to our list.
He didn’t want to sell them additional ebooks…
Or nutrition coaching…
Or even supplements…
He was of the belief that they got everything they needed in the original ebook they got from us, so they didn’t need anything else.
So most of that first year, we didn’t sell anything to our list.
We sent them emails once in a while with fitness tips and info, but we didn’t pitch them any additional ebooks or supplements.
Which was incredibly stupid.
We missed out on a lot of money.
But here’s the interesting part…
I was curious how much money we were missing out on.
So at one point, I asked my friend Ryan Lee (who ran a big supplement company at the time) to compare the people on our list to the people on his list.
So we ran the data…
And 22% of the people on our list were also on his list.
So there was a lot of overlap.
So I asked him if he’d send me a report of what these people were buying from them.
So Ryan ran the report and sent it to me…
And guess what we discovered?
Not only were the people from our list buying supplements from them, but they were buying them by the truckload.
Seriously.
They were ordering tubs of protein powder…
Krill oil…
Multi-vitamins…
Hell, most of them even had a monthly shipment being sent to their house that cost over $130.
So this idea that they weren’t buying stuff cause we weren’t selling to them was flat out wrong.
They were buying…
Just not from us!
That was a big eye-opener for me.
And it made me realize that if you’re not selling to your list, then someone else is.
Which is a good lesson to understand…
And also ties in nicely with what I’ve been telling you about the last few days with the 1-Day Cash Machine.
