I’m having one of those mornings where I don’t know what to write about.

So I’m just gonna rif on what’s on my mind…

– My insomnia came roaring back in the last 2 weeks.  Basically I wake up at 3 AM to go pee, and then I can’t get back to sleep.  So last week I started tinkering with my pre-sleep routine and it seems to really be working.  One of the things that is helping is taking a 30 minute walk around 7:30 at night. The 3 or 4 days that I did this, the insomnia didn’t hit.  So I’m gonna keep that up.

– Speaking of sleep, when I was at Copy Chief Live earlier this week my sleep was awful.  Specifically on Monday after I ate a 34 oz ribeye about an hour before bed.  Ron Burgundy is famous for saying that “milk was a bad choice”.  Well eating 2 lbs of steak an hour before bed is also a bad choice.  I was up all night –  tossing and turning. Although the steak was pretty damn good, so it was worth it.

– I just found out yesterday that Elaine Pofeldt from Forbes decided to write a little “crash course” on copywriting from an interview we did back in September.  The article is mostly for beginners.  So if you’re advanced, you probably won’t learn anything new. But if you wanna check it out on the Forbes site you can see it here.

– This is the first year I didn’t have a halloween costume.  Which is strange, cause usually I’m the guy who makes his costume a month in advance.  In the past I had some epic ones like Lt. Jim Dangle (Reno 911), Opie from Sons of Anarchy, and Kenny Powers from Eastbound & Down.  However this year, I never got around to it.  Not sure if I’m just getting old and I don’t care as much.  Or if I was just too busy.  Either way, it felt strange not being excited for halloween.

– I mentioned on Facebook that my pals Stefan Georgi and Ian Stanley are putting on a small event Nov 9th that is all about making more money as a freelance copywriter.  To be clear, it’s not about writing headlines, or sales pages. It’s specifically about things like making better deals, getting royalties, raising your rates, getting better clients etc…  If you’re a freelancer (or want to be one) I highly, highly recommend going to this.  Stefan charges like $50k to write a salesletter.  And Ian usually makes $50k-$100k per project with his royalties.  So they both know what they’re doing.  And being able to learn from these guys in a small group setting for $2k is a steal.  I wish something like this had been around when I was learning the freelancing game.  Cause it would have made me a LOT more money.  And saved me a ton of frustration.   Anyways, highly recommend going to this if you can swing it.  You can get more info about it on their event page here

– I’m struggling watching George get old.  He turned 10 this year, which is pretty old for a Great Dane.  But he’s still as chipper as he was when he was a pup.  However he’s starting to have some neurological issues.  His back legs are dragging on walks.  And he’s having trouble getting up off the ground.  I’m looking into stem cells this week for him.  Which I have a lot of hope for.  I also have a vet coming to the house who’s going to do weekly accupuncture/chiropractic on him.  That starts on Monday   So hoping he gets some benefit from that.  It’s tough to watch though.  It all came on so quick.  I know people like when I write about George, so I’ll keep ya updated on how he’s doing.

Alright…

I can’t think of anything else to write about.

So I’m gonna wrap up this little “brain dump”.

Hope you have a good Friday.

Take care,

– Justin
