One of my main goals for 2020 is for my business to NOT be the #1 priority in my life.

Why?

Well there’s a multitude of reasons.

One of which is that I feel like I’m entering a very different phase of my life.

For the last 14 years, my focus was “build, build, build”.

Which meant my business always came first.

It came before my health…

It came before the women I’ve dated…

It came before having fun…

And while I did end up quite successful following this path…

I’m realizing it’s not what I want going forward.

Sure, I still want to have a successful business…

And I want to make a bunch of money so I can have the lifestyle I want..

But I don’t want my business to be hogging up 90% of my focus like it usually does.

I want to put that focus on other things…

Like finding a partner that I can share my life with…

Making new friends…

And spending more time working with a few of the dog rescues here in Austin.

What’s funny is that as much as I want to make this change…

It’s really hard.

My auto-pilot response is always to just hop on my laptop and start working.

So I’m pushing myself to break that.

And to put more focus on celebrating the progress I’m making towards those goals.

Last night was a good example of this…

I got invited to a house party where I knew like 4 people at most.

For an introvert, this is my worst nightmare.

Being in a room with people I don’t know is the last thing I want to do.

I usually wind-up in the other room just petting the dog when this happens.

But like I said…

One of my goals is to meet new people this year.

And that ain’t gonna happen if I’m sittin on my couch on Saturday night.

So I went.

And I wound up having a blast.

I met some really cool people that I wouldn’t normally run into.

…made a few new connections.

…and even managed to not talk about business when I was chatting with the other entrepreneurs in the room

So that’s a win for me.

It’s gonna be little things like this that help push me out of my “business comes first” mindset, and more towards the things I really want.

Anyways…

Wanted to share it with you.

If you have a tendency to fall into the “business comes first” trap like I do, then I hope this resonates with you.

If you want to have a more complete life, your business needs to be a part of your life…

Not the only thing…

Enjoy your Sunday
