Being a copywriter at our events is like being an attractive woman on an ARMY base.  You are the prize!

This is a line I said to Stefan after our event ended last week.

Why?

Because on the last day of our event, we did a little  “matchmaking” session where we connected business owners with the freelance copywriters in the room.

So we had all the business owners in the room that were looking to hire copywriters stand up and say exactly what they were looking for.

Probably 15-17 business owners stood up and said things like…

“I’m looking for someone to write sales letters for  the prepper niche. We pay $10k – $15k per sales letter”

Nearly all of the business owners that stood up during this session were the “cream of the crop”.

You had guys like VShred who are doing $120 million a year, say they will hire any copywriter in the room (literally).

You had guys like Allen Baler, who runs the largest prepper company online, say he’s looking to bring in young, hungry writers and coach them up.

You had guys like Chance Welton, who crushes in biz opp, say he wants to hire someone to write a new VSL and webinar for him.

Seriously it was just job after job being handed out like candy.

I joked with Stefan that as good as we are at writing copy, we’re really BAD at conveying just how easy it is to get clients at our event.

They’re handed to you on a silver platter.

Art McDermott, who came to the event looking for some new clients walked out with 4 different contacts and is having conversations this week with each of them about new projects.

Michael Rochin (who is super introverted like me) got connected with 3-4 potential clients that are going to easily make him a few grand a month.

I can’t remember all the others off the top of my head, but I think every freelancer in the room walked out with at least 2 potenial clients.

Which can be life changing for them.

But here’s the point I want to make about this…

If you’re a freelance copywriter, and you want to get more clients, you HAVE to be at live events.

Why?

Because it buys you access to the best clients.

There’s no other way you’re going to get to chat 1-on-1 with someone like Nick Daniel who’s running a $120 million company.

He prolly won’t answer your cold email.

He prolly won’t answer your Facebook message.

But at an event, when he’s actively looking for copywriters, he will gladly chat with you for 20 minutes.

And by the end of that chat, he’ll probably be trying to convince YOU to do a freelance gig for him.

That’s what happens at live events.

You are the prize.

I’ve been telling this to copywriters for over a year, yet so few actually listen to this advice.

All you have to do is think of the long term ROI on this.

Let’s look at someone like Art who talked to 4 clients at the event.

Lets say he talks with them all, and he lands 3 of them as clients.

Odds are at least one of those projects goes really well.

And if it does, they might hire him for ongoing work.

Maybe a retainer at $4k or $5k a month.

That right there just gave Art a 12x-15x ROI on his ticket for the event.

Does that sound like it’s worth it?

Of course.

But that’s the power of buying access.

You get to be in the room with a business owner doing 8 or 9 figures who is actively looking to hire new copywriters.

That only happens at events.

Which is why I’m so big on going to live events for freelancers.

And whether you choose to go to one of our events…

Or T&C…

Or Copy Chief Live…

Doesn’t really matter.

Just get your ass to live events.

Like I said, it’s by far the easiest way to pick up clients if you’re a freelancer.

And if you’re just making excuses and sitting at home…

You’re leaving a lot of dough on the table.

That’s all I got for ya today.

Hope you’re enjoying this little series on my biggest takeaways from our mastermind.

I’ll be back tomorrow with another one.

Talk then,
