One thing I wish I would have focused on earlier in my career is “playing the long game”.

For example…

These days I probably work 30 hours a week.

I usually take Saturdays off.

And I’m planning on taking 3 vacations this year.

That’s “long game” thinking.

If I want to do this at a high level for 20 more years, I can’t grind myself to death day after day and week after week.

Sure that works in the short term…

But in the long term, it’s a recipe for disaster…

Let’s look at another example…

Let’s say there’s an offer out there that would convert really well to your email list.

It would make a ton of sales.

But the offer doesn’t sit right with you…

It’s a little too hypey.

Or promises too much.

Someone playing the short term game would simply promote that offer.

Why?

Cause it’s easy money.

And short term thinking is always attracted to easy money.

But if you’re playing the long game…

You’d think about it differently.

Am I gonna erode trust with people on my list if I promote this?

Are they gonna look at me differently if I promote this?

These are important questions…

Cause that’s how “long gamers” think.

It’s not about the instant payoff.

It’s about being successful over the long haul.

Like I said, I used to never think like this.

Back when I was 25 I was all about the instant payoff.

I only thought about “now”.

Well that was a mistake.

If you want to be successful for years and years to come (and not just be a flash in the pan), then you should play the long game.

Keep that in mind.

And enjoy your Saturday.
