True story…
A few years ago when I moved to Austin, me and my buddy Joe went out on Rainey Street one Friday night to meet some girls, and I ended up learning a very valuable lesson that can help any copywriter land more clients.
Here’s the story…
Joe and I met outside a little bar on Rainey called “Container Bar”…
When I got there, you could hear the music bumping…
And people having a good time.
So we showed the door guy our ID’s…
And started walking towards the back of the bar.
As we were walking we could hear people having fun..
So we were getting excited…
However when we turned the corner and walked into the area where everyone was…
We immediately realized we had made a big mistake.
Why?
Well the bar was certainly busy…
However…
It was almost all DUDES.
Seriously.
It was like 200 guys and 10 girls.
Apparently there was some type of fraternity meet-up going on…
So there was a swarm of 200 guys in khakis and polos…
And all 200 guys were gathered around a bachelorette party that was swatting them away like flies.
It was quite the sight to see.
And pretty hilarious.
However…
Looking back on that night now…
I can’t help but think that this is the exact same approach most copywriters take when they try to get clients.
Most copywriters are simply one of those 200 guys.
They just blend in by sending cold emails, or Instagram DMs or LinkedIn messages…
That’s not what you want.
What you want is to stand out.
That way you get the business owner’s attention…
And that way you have a good shot at signing them…
If you simply do the same thing as every other copywriter who’s trying to get clients, you’re not gonna get hired.
So having said that…
Over the next few days, I’m gonna show you how to land copywriting clients by going where other copywriters aren’t.
I call it the Zig Zag Method.
When everyone is “zigging”, that’s when you “zag”.
That’s how you stand out.
And get attention.
And more importantly, get hired.
