Last night I randomly posted a photo of me going for a walk on Instagram and it brought a flurry of questions about my daily routine.

So I’m gonna break down my day for ya…

One thing to note…

I don’t have any kids, or a wife.

It’s just me to worry about.

So my schedule may be a lot different than yours.

With that said, let’s dive in…

7:30-8: Wake up

I usually wake up at this time everyday (weekends included).  I don’t use an alarm.  My body just naturally wakes up at this time if I’m in bed before 10.

8-10:  Most important tasks

This is my “magic time” as Craig Ballantyne calls it.  It’s when I get my best work done.

So this time is guarded like a hawk.

I focus on writing this daily email during this time. And usually one more important writing task (right now I’m working on my print newsletter as well)

I also usually eat breakfast in this time frame as well when I switch from one task to another

10 – 10:30:  Go for a walk

I try to walk everyday for at least 20-30 minutes in the morning without a shirt on (get some sun)

I feel better when I do it, so I’m gonna keep doing it

10:30 – 11:  Answer emails/FB messages

11 – 4: A bunch of different tasks

My afternoons are usually when I do reviews in our Copy Accelerator group.  This takes up an hour or so of my afternoon.

I also do any calls/podcasts/follow-ups in the afternoon.

If I have any writing left to do (like I do today) then this gets done in the afternoon as well.

BTW I’m also eating during this time as well.  I usually eat 4x a day.

My food is meal prepped ahead of time by my assistant, so I simply toss it in the pan and heat it up.

4:30 – 6:15  – Workout at Starting Strength

I usually workout Monday, Weds, Friday.

I was doing this at noon previously, but it was taking up too much of my productive work time so I switched to the 4:30 class.

This is a better fit.

Cause that’s basically when my day can be done.

I might do one or two smaller things on the computer when I get home, but essentially my day is over.

6:30 – 9:30ish – Walk,  Wind-down, Socialize

Lately, I’ve been using the evenings to walk for an hour or so.

This started early in the quarantine cause I had nothing to do.  Then I fell off the wagon.  Now I’m back to walking for about an hour each night.

Basically my whole goal in this 6:30-9:30 time frame is to relax…

And to focus on anything but my business.

This could mean I’m throwing a frisbee at the park with friends.  It could be going for a walk.  It could be going on a date.

Whatever it is, my goal is to be done with work by 6:30 and then the next few hours are for non-work stuff.

9:30 – 10 – Go to sleep

I normally would stay up til 1030 or 11, but I know I sleep a lot better if Im in bed by 930 or so.

The data on my Oura ring proves this over and over again.

So I usually wind-down like 8ish.

I’ll take some melatonin at that time.

And then 8-9:30 is usually me watching Netflix, Youtube or something like that (usually wearing blue-light blocking glasses which Ive found to really help my sleep)

And then I head to bed like 9:30 ish.

So there ya go…

That’s a typical day for me.

Nothing fancy about it.

But it works for me.

Which is the key.

Simply copying someone else’s schedule probably isn’t going to be a good fit for you.

You want to find what works for you…

Not only with being the most productive…

But also keeping you sane (and not stressed).

Hopefully my schedule gives ya a few new ideas you can try.

Enjoy your day,

– Justin
