Back in 2020 I had a realization that if I don’t take time and “unplug” every few months, I wind up burning out.

So in order to unplug, I started doing little getaways where I didn’t do any work…

No responding to email…

No writing…

No Slack messages…

I was really good about doing this every couple months until the beginning of this year.

Then this year I made a big change in my schedule…

I scaled my workload back significantly and started only working an hour or two a day.

So I figured with that light of a workload, I wouldn’t need to do the “unplug” sessions.

After all, I wasn’t working that much…

So I didn’t feel like I needed a break…

But over the last few weeks, I’ve been feeling the itch to unplug again.

I haven’t traveled since March…

So just the monotony of doing the same thing every day and every week is catching up with me.

So I decided to book a little impromptu trip to California to unplug this weekend.

My goal is to simply zone out.

And not think about work.

So I’ll just hang on the beach…

Go to yoga…

Catch-up with friends…

That kind of stuff.

After a few days of this, I usually feel refreshed.

And re-energized.

If you’re ambitious, and a hard worker I’d highly suggest doing an “unplug” session like this every couple months.

You’ll feel much better…

And have a renewed sense of energy for your work.

So it’s well worth it…

And I’d argue it’s even mandatory if you want to thrive over the long haul.

So that’s what I’ll be doing all weekend.

I probably won’t write my daily email again until Tuesday…

So until then…

Take some time for yourself…

And enjoy your weekend.
