One thing I’ve never understood is people who are ok with living a shitty, uninspired life in the present because they’re banking on having “fun” in retirement.

My cousin Bill who’s a police officer in Vegas lives this life to a “T”.

His job is highly stressful…

He’s always dealing with people on drugs…

Husbands and wives fighting…

Shootings…

So he’s always on high alert…

And he doesn’t get paid nearly enough for all the shit he has to deal with.

Which is why every time we catch up, our conversation almost always turns to ONE thing…

Retirement.

This is what’s on his mind everyday.

It’s what gives him hope.

He can’t wait to leave the police crap behind, hop in his RV and travel around to all the national parks with his wife.

That’s what he loves to do.

And what he dreams about.

However…

He’s “trapped” in this thinking that he has to wait until retirement to do that.

Why?

Cause he thinks his only option is to be a cop.

And if he’s a cop, that means he has to go into work everyday.

To me this is really dumb thinking…

And if I were in his shoes…

I’d be spending all my free time trying to figure out how I could make money while I travel around in my RV…

Maybe that’s moving to a different position in law enforcement that would allow him to work remotely…

Maybe it’s setting up his own consulting business where he helps other police departments…

Or maybe it’s learning an entirely new skill like copywriting or media buying that would allow him to travel full time.

The options are endless.

He doesn’t have to wait until he’s retired to start enjoying life.

He can do it now.

But he has to get away from the “work now and live later” thinking.

Cause that’s holding him back.

And until he sheds that belief…

Nothing will change.

So if you’re in a similar spot…

Just know that you don’t have to wait til you’re 65 to start living life.

You don’t have to dread the next 20 or 30 years of your life.

You can make changes now.

And start living a life you actually enjoy.

It’s totally possible.

You just gotta step up and make it happen.

And I hope you do.
