After the emails I wrote this weekend about the “inner work” I was doing with Brent, a reader had a question on my email style…
“I don’t see other marketers like Ben Settle or Ian sharing as much personal stuff as you do. I like these emails, but I’m wondering what’s the reason behind them?“
Good question.
And this is a multi-layered answer.
First, I would say there’s no one “right way” to do daily emails.
If you look at people like me, Ian, Ben, Stefan and others who write daily emails, there are some similarities to what we share…
But there’s also a lot of differences.
I probably share more personal shit than most.
So I talk about things like my complicated relationship with my mom…
I talk about the times I feel like a fraud (even though I’m pretty successful).
I talk about being a gym nut, a dog lover and a work-a-holic…
And there’s a few reasons I do this…
The main one is that I simply enjoy talking about this stuff.
I’m a psychology nerd at heart…
So anytime I can tell a story about the stuff I’m struggling with…
Or the mental blocks I have…
I’ll do it.
Cause I like talking about that stuff.
And secondly…
Once I started writing about things like this, I discovered pretty quickly that people like it.
If you look at the replies I get when I talk about something I’m struggling with, it’s like 10x what I get when I talk about a conversion tactic.
People reply like crazy…
And share their stories with me.
They tell me how they feel the same way. Or how their dad was just like my mom.
It’s a much deeper connection that’s made.
One that allows you to get to know me as a human.
And not just some marketer who’s emails you read.
And that’s really what I’m going for.
A true connection.
Where I feel like you’re a part of my life…
And you feel like I’m a part of yours.
I know that’s not how others do it.
But it’s how I do it.
And it works pretty well for me.
So there ya go…
It’s not complicated.
But that’s the method behind my madness.
