you’re not normal

Note: I’m taking the morning off from writing, so this is an email I wrote about 6 months ago that’s all about embracing the fact that you’re not “normal” when you’re an entrepreneur.  I think you’ll dig it

Yesterday I was filling out some information for my health insurance and had a moment where I  realized how “unusual” my life is.

Here’s what I mean…

On the form, it was asking me all the typical questions like my age, where I lived and stuff like that.

Then there was a spot for me to enter what my yearly income is.

So I typed in “$1,500,000.”

Like most entrepreneurs, my income fluctuates.

But this is what it was in 2021.

So I put in $1,500,000.

I didn’t really think anything of it…

But after I entered the number, the the form shot this back…

“Error: The highest amount you can enter is $1,000,000”

I’m not sure if this was a coding issue on their end…

Or what…

But it wouldn’t let me put $1,500,000 in the form.

Apparently that was “too much”.

I found it odd that the highest income you could enter was $1,000,000.

I’m not an idiot, I understand a million dollars is a lot of money…

But there’s a lot of people who make more than that in a year.

Like I said this could have just been a glitch in the system…

But for me it felt like one of those moments that it  hits you just how “not normal” your life is.

Most things in this world are not made for successful entrepreneurs.

We don’t fit into the “normal box”.

We earn money differently…

We pay taxes differently…

Our days are setup in a way that most people would find strange.

Everything we do is outside the norm.

But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Why?

Cause I want to do my own thing.

I want to be in control of my future.

I’m not really interested in fitting into a box with everyone else.

I like doing things my way.

And that’s something you should remember…

You’re not gonna fit into a neat, little box like most people.

You’re gonna be on your own.

Even isolated at times.

But that’s ok.

Cause if you want a life of freedom…

And a life lived on YOUR terms…

That’s part of the process.

So I say embrace it.

Be ok with not being “normal”…

And not fitting in with everyone else.

It’s a good thing.
